Physical Description

Alternate Mode

Angular grey-to-bronze jet with retractable wings and fins. Fully retracted, looks more like a rocket than an airplane. Optimized for atmospheric flight and high-G shortcuts through Cybertron's core, but capable of space flight. A journey from Cybertron to one of its moons is his maximum space travel capacity, and it's a one way trip unless he can refuel. Can be useful when operating out of a mother ship, though.

Designed for stealth in Cybertron's many chasms and tunnels, and so Mercury's outer shell is covered in a metal not unlike that which comprises much of the planet's terrain. It can appear to be anything from a dull blueish-grey to a bright golden bronze depending on the light conditions.

The jet has barely any weapons, and is above average but not remarkable in manuevering capability. Mercury's skill as a pilot gets the most out of that, but the most striking (literally) feature of his jet mode is its extreme durability and ability to function normally after a serious impact. He's crashed through a few buildings and kept on flying, in addition to numerous Decepticons.

Transformation

Pretty simple compared to most aerial Transformers, in keeping with his solid, durable construction. Nosecone and air intake sections become arms, rear engines become lower legs, everything in between becomes his main body. Wings and fins merge into a V-shaped shield carried on his back.

Robot Mode

Again, simple and stocky for a flyer, though this still makes him a little tall and thin compared to a midsized ground based Autobot. Yellow-orange visor and canopy on his chest, long dull red, wide and flat antennae on either side of his head, otherwise he is mostly the same grey-to-bronze as his vehicle mode, aside from a standard white for his leg and arm extender segments. Has a young looking face under the visor and between the cheek guards, but this is probably because of the faceplate he extends whenever he gets into a rough patch.

Personality

A pragmatic thrill seeker, Mercury thrives in the thin middle ground between the risks most bots won't take and the risks that will get him killed. Also, he thrives on alcohol. This is not necessarily compatable with that first part, though he claims he flies better while drunk. There is a bit of truth to this, since he gets very depressed while sober and just wants to sulk in a corner. In order to function as a stunt pilot, he needs to shut off the memory circuits that keep reminding him that everyone he's ever known and loved is either dead or joined the Decepticons, and it's only a matter of time until he screws up some maneuver or flies into an ambush and winds up dead himself. A little liquor doesn't make him totally forget, but it gives him a devil-may-care, we're all going to die tomorrow attitude about it.

Elemental Key Function

  • Base Element: Air
  • Elemental Power: Phasing. Can pass through solid matter for .5sec out of every hour without a key, 1 sec per 15sec with one. Flying at top speed, this means he can go through hundreds of feet of solid rock, but if he miscalculates there is a very high chance of death being the result. Rematerializing at 1000mph in the middle of a layer of granite is pretty bad.

History

Built before the War as a Core Runner, a plane designed to take the quick but dangerous shortcuts through Cybertron's depths that could get you from one side of the planet to the other even faster than orbital travel. With the War, those routes only became more dnagerous and profitable. He ran goods, weapons and messages for whatever side had a job for a while, but after the Decepticons majorly screwed him over on a deal, Mercury joined the ranks of the Autobots. Without the firepower for frontline duty, he had much the same function as courier for sensitive messages and weapons, but over time he got his hands into scouting and aerial spying as well. He became skilled at stealth and electronic countermeasures to avoid ever more sophisticated Decepticon sensor nets and patrols. He also became quite adept at losing pursuers, though often the best way to lose someone was to smash them to bits.

Needs some personal history.. pretty much personality in general.
